Well, I think this may end up in Viewpoint but surely this can impact all of us in some way.
BBC News - EU revamps fishing policy to save depleted stocks
It seems new regulations to come in to force in 2013 (why so late??) intends to stop the awful "by-catch" or "discards" whereby all boats will be expected to land the total catch which will count against that boat's quota.
Quoted from the BBC
"Under the new scheme, boats are expected to land all the fish caught, and the whole catch would count against quotas. This would apply to species including mackerel, herring and tuna from the beginning of 2014."
"Cod, hake and sole would follow a year later, with virtually every other commercial species coming under the regulation from 2016."
So, my question is, how and who will monitor this? Are they expecting all boats to be honest and keep everything they catch?
And why does it take so long before the most threatened stocks come under this law? 2014 for Cod, Hake and Sole??
Something doesnt sit well with me here; dont know about you?
