Default Carp on the fly venues.

Hi

I am going to treat myself and a friend to a day fishing for carp on the fly. I would like to go after 15lb+ specimens. We have the relevant tackle and experience.( Raygill, club waters etc)
My problem comes from refusals of the larger commercial course fisheries. (all Lancastrian...no offence) They will not allow anyone to fish for carp on the fly.
Can anyone suggest a course fishery with large carp that allows fly fishing? I live in Skipton and wouldnt mind 30 mile or so radius.

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave try contacting here T: 07836 330157 E: info@westhouse-troutlakes.co.uk near Stockton on tees it's primarily a trout fishery but before that it used to be a coarse fishery I can testament to the carp being in the double figures in weight and quite a few are still in the lakes. Just found this forum it may be of help http://yorksfishing.proboards.com/index.cgi

Carp on fly venues are scarcer than hen's teeth.

Most carp lakes are not designed to accommodate fly fishing there's no room to backcast and lots of foaliage. Also, fisheries want the carp angler rather than the short stay fly fisherman.

Good luck with your search. If you find somewhere let members know on this Forum. This information may be helpful to others.

Hartlepool and District AC have a couple of waters with Carp which can be caught on the fly. Kenny pond and Hart Reservoir.
They are both club waters but I think they do Guest tickets.

Hello I have just started fly fishing.
I am a member of BDAC in Essex, they have a match carp fishery near Thaxted that used to be a Trout fishery, it is surrounded by mown meadows and makes for easy casting. I had 5 carp on my fly rod on monday evening.
Only about £62 per year.
Most of the carp are small, but the 5 pounders in there often take you down to the backing!

Hi all,

FFS this is bloody hard work...I just want to cast a fly at a stalked carp or two.
I will try and ring around a few fisheries this weekend and hopefully give some positive feedback.

Cheers

Dave

Dave, Manor Farm in Bedfordshire allows it, but a bit too far for you I guess.

Hi

Found 3 fisheries in North Yorkshire who dont mind us lot.

Raygill at Lothersdale....tactical duck avoidance measures are necessary if using dog biscuits or bread.

Welcome to Carpvale - North Yorkshire's finest fishing lakes, fisheries and doubles pools near York and

Welcome to Sunriselakes.co.uk near Spofforth ( Phone the bloke first tho...he is wary of fly fishermen!)

Best refusal of the day..." thee cannot fish ere lad, thee will catch too much and put the fishery off"

As far as I am concerned, and I fish for large carp on both Carp rods etc and fly rods, as long as the fish safety / care is accounted for and there is room to cast, what does it matter? If you have a strong enough setup and not pulling lures through a stocked fishery, I cant see a problem? Its prob safer than some rig setups I have seen from some carp fishermen (fixed leads etc)
