Default Mulberry Whin - fly suggestions

Off on my annual trip to mulberry whin in a couple of weeks time.

About to sit down at the vise and start filling up the fly box. Anyone got any suggestions as to what's working ?

The last couple of trips have been all about small dries. Size 22 - 26 IOTBB have probably been the best fly for me on there. But I've got them tied, so what else can I fill the box with?

Hi Spider 316

In Summer and Autumn, Black Gnats, Midges, Olives (sizes 16 to 20), Olive Spinners (e.g. Spent Pheasant Tail Spinner) (sizes 16 to 20), Daddies and Sedges/Caddis (e.g. Elk Hair Caddis of F Flies) (size 12 to 20) are useful patterns. There is an abundance of natural invertibrates in this water so don't be surprised if the going is tough.

It always is on there .... the most frustrating place in the world to fish. But that also makes it all the more rewarding.

Don't over look nymph's, I've done well on small tungsten head hares ears and PTN's.

I was on a water this week and the fish were in abundance but taking very small flies and nymphs but not artificials. The water was gin clear with no ripple. We found some well rippled water and I fished green CDC suspended buzzers on size 14 hooks. These were an instant hit until the fish moved on.

I haven't fished MW yet this year, but I've been fishing wansford just down the road. The terresterials haven't really picked up yet for some reason, so I wouldn't focus too much there. The tiny midges are out in abundance though. I've been fishing 18-24's in all flavor of larvae, adult, emerger, etc. A light grey body and dark thorax seems to be the productive one at the moment.

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Fished it last weekend and had a great time. It was as frustrating as ever, watching hhuge grayling ignore or reject just about everything you throw at them, but thats mulberry whin for you.
Had 8 fish on the saturday and 11 on sunday, the succesful fly ... size 22 IOTBB (again).
That fly accounted for all but 3 fish, one on a klink and two on killer bugs (both foul hooked !!).
I missed a load of takes and pulled out of a lot of fish too, but thats down to tiny flies and the excess slack I had to throw to compensate for a very nasty downstream wind.
I tried all sorts and I don't think I've ever made as many fly changes over one weekend.
To be honest, it was a waste of time changing. Turned out to be far better to stick with the IOTBB and if a fish rejects it, don't change the fly, go find another fish !!
So, plan for the next trip, a box full of IOTBBs and only change the fly when it falls to bits !!!
