Hello all

I’m off to Poole with the family next week for a week and as usual, I am trying to sneak in a bit of fishing.

I would appreciate any info of what flyfishing opportunities there are down there. I wouldn’t mind a bit of saltwater fishing if it is productive, but would also be interested to hear if theres any decent dayticket rivers that are worth a visit?

Sorry can't help you out with fishing info around Poole.

The Frome and Piddle both drain into Poole Harbour, and I can recommend the middle beats of the Piddle, in particular - in general, the further up the Frome you go, the better the day ticket fishing and that may be a bit of a hike from Poole in holiday traffic. Both rivers are less manicured than many beats of the Hampshire chalkstreams, and many anglers think are the better for it.

You may have just missed the cream of the sport.

Richard Slocock sells day tickets for both rivers, and the Dorchester club has limited day tickets on their splendid beats of the Frome.

Im new to this fly fishing lark and like you, have struggled to find places to fish without having to join local angling clubs just to access rivers. Poole is 30 odd mins from my town of Weymouth. Most rivers round here are covered via local angling clubs or estates ect. Viable options for fly fishing are mainly Rockboune(50min drive or so). Wessex fly lake at Tolpuddle(small village outskirts of Dorchester)50min drive or so. Then you go east to Flowers Farm towards Yeovil( just over 1 1/4hrs drive).Flowers is my local haunt. all these are situated in the stillwater section on the forum for areail views of the lakes. Sea fishing round this area can be productive depending on weather and location.But all depends on how much time you have to go fishing. There may be others in the area but so far I have not found these of yet. Enjoy the delights of Dorset when down for your holiday.
