Default Repairing a 3wt 8ft rod...???

Hi guys

A couple years ago i picked up a 3wt rod while on holiday in South Africa. The make is Tempest. I havent heard of the make before but seemed a beaut of a rod and it fished lovely. After using it i found it difficult to go back to my 5/6wt even when fishing small waters and reservoirs. Needless to say i overfished it i think, using it in conditions unfavourable for a 3 wt and subsequently it broke.

Its an 8ft 4 piece. And its the 3rd section that has broken, or second from the top. Is there any way i can get a 3rd section and have my rod back..?? Or is its life span over..??

Cheers
Rich

Most people on this forum recommend David Norwich. His replacement sections start at £55. It depends whether you think the rod is worth this investment. No harm in asking though. Here are his details:-

Tel: 01578 760 310

e-mail: davidnorwich@tiscali.co.uk

David Norwich.

Hillside Works, Fountainhall, Nr. Galashiels, Selkirkshire. TD1 2SU, SCOTLAND

Hope he can sort you out.

You can also have that section repaired if a replacement section is not available. That should be a fairly easy repair if the break is reasonably clean. A over sleeve of fiberglas, thread wrap, and coat of finish will have it back fishing.

Thanks,
rick

Where can you get that done? Or are there DIY packages available?

Hi rick

Yeah i fixed it myself....twice, each time it lasted just over 6 months. It been have been permanent if i had it done professionally, but i think i do a reasonable job. Got one if fixed which is about 5 years old now and is still going strong.

Thanks for the other advice though. I will give Dave a shout/e-mail.

Cheers
Rich

I repaired mine with a peice of Carbon fibre rod sleeved in side the broken bits
it has to be Carbon fibre, you will find Glass fibre has a different flex, most times it works but not on tips, I have repaired a good few rods over the years
the hard job is the actual gluing, you have to be sparing with epoxy or you will find the bits dont fit, it can be done, with care, easker 1
