Default Newcastle Fly Venue Needed for Sat (9th July)

Hiya,

I'm working up in Newcastle fri & sat night, and wouldn't mind doing a spot of fly fishing on Saturday to kill some time - anyone know of a nice day ticket fly venue in the Newcastle area?

As always, your help is grately appreciated!

Shanners

Hi Shanners
The nearest fisheries are Higham just out side of ponteland ( near the airport )
Or south Causey lakes near Stanley ( south of Newcastle )
Both have websites and instructions of how to get there .There both small fisherys but good value for money
Or res fishing the nearest is Derwent west of the toon head for the a69 then tern left on to the a68 Darlington road and it's signposted from there ( tip ignore first 2 signed turn off right just past the motel it will take you to the lodge to book in )

Regards
Toxic

A bit further afield but a nice venue is Witton Castle.

I was in the area visiting my daughter a few weeks ago and enjoyed a few hours there.

Alternatively, there's the lower River Derwent (about five miles or less from Newcastle city centre), which has good quality brown trout and grayling fishing. Details about the stretch and on how to get day tickets here.

The upper Derwent is also a good trout fishery and the 'upper club's waters are only about a further five to ten miles away from Newcastle. Most beats controlled by both clubs are fly only and sedges are thing that's catching at the moment.

For details on nearly all fisheries in the area look here

Sharpley springs at Seaham is good. Well stocked but not too easy.

Welcome to Sharpley Waters

Get in touch with this angling shop, Mark Armstrong who is the manager is also a Local Fishing Journalist and Radio Presenter covering the Newcastle area. Tell him exactly what sort of fishing you want and he'll point you in the right direction.

Thanks so much for your help guys: I'd met the guy at the flyfishing shop on Grey Street last time I was up and he was immensely helpful - unfortunately I lost the guide book he sold me when i moved house recently.

I popped over to the Higham fishery, coz of vacinity. It was a strange day, and the fish were noticeably put off by the wind. There was a tiny spell of rain at about 1pm, and suddenly i was able to pick of 2 very hard fighting quality fish on an amber bloodworm of mine, and two dropped off - then the warm blustery wind returned and the fish stopped any activity. I was the only person I saw net a fish there the whole day - but had to leave about 4pm to get ready for work.

The fish I did hook faught very well, and were in a top condition - I would recommend the place to anyone looking for a cheeky day: and will definately be going back next trip up.

Thanks again for your advice and time.

Shanners
