Default Floating line burst right through

Was fishing the other day and was enjoying myself plodding away and all of a sudden a cast went wrong and the line slapped on to the water I looked down and the line had snapped clean in 2. I have no doubt it has probably been stood on and burst but I.ve never seen the full core break was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. Really like the line. Cortland 444 floating that hadn't been used that much gutted £40 out the window lol. I stuidly binned the line and people said they would have sent it into cortland as the break was quite clean. I don't fish with a line tray so I have just put it down to my own fault this time

Lost 3 lines this way, mainly due to rocks and vegetation. Do have a line tray but uncomfortable to use and more so if windy, line blows out of the tray.

Same happened to me with an Orvis floater less than a month old. I cast out and was left with a frayed strand in my hand and the rest of the line on the water.

It was my third one of the same kind so I put it down to bad luck or a single rogue line or both and Orvis were happy and fast to replace it.

Odd, 43 years and I've never had a fly line break.
