Question What are the advantadges of braided loops?

Hi all,
I was fishing recently and another angler recomended to me that i should use braided loops on the end of my fly line to connect me leader to my fly line instead of just trying my leader onto my fly line. My question is what if any are the advantages of using the braided on the end of my line??? Thanks in advance for any help!
Regars,
Tom

I use braided loops. In answer to you question though (advantages), I would say absolutely none, in fact your method is much 'cleaner'.

Regars,

The main advantage of these braided loops is that they can be put in packets and sold.

Learn the needle knot instead. You won't regret it.

Advantage, easier to change leader.
Disadvantage, even the so called floating braided loops sink the fly line and need treating.
The best loops are the welded ones which are part of the fly line itself.

Well that should light the 'touch paper'.

When fishing for sea trout I just use straight through mono which is disposable when it gets caught up / snagged and generally buggered at night. To be nail knotting replacements in the dark would be a nightmare so I use a braided loop for quick replacement, although I think I shall be needle-knotting a loop in the future.

For brownie fishing I have just done what I have always done for sea trout (see above). In reality I dont like it, a nice 3 wt line with a hoofing great thingmy on the end doesn't seem right. I think I will start attaching my tappered leader direct to the line.

Although..... I am going to try some of Mr Trout's FLs - I don't know if they come with a loop or not -

As richard said needle knot, or Greys loop, (which i prefer), not as bulky as those braided jobs (i think they are a pile of p**s).

Gray's Loop - Fly Line Leader Loop

Best regards
Jim

I’ve tried braided loops but found them to be too ‘heavy’ not ‘clean’ or 'smooth' if you know what I mean. I’ve gone back to needle knots.

I use and recommend braided loops.done properly(I see wrongly attached loops everywhere I go )You have a neat, clean method of attaching your leader. For flylines with a solid core you cannot do a needle knot or grays loop.I have tried many of the other methods, and still return to the braid loop as the most conveinient system.
