Default Rainbows

Hi Folks

I dont fish for rainbows much as I am dedicated wild trout man :-)
However I want to give them a bash... What lures / Flies / Nymphs should I be using this time of the year ?

Are you talking about stillwater or river fishing?

Biggish question
I'd narrow it down a bit for us. What fishery are you planning on going to, bank or boat, do you have a range of lines or just a floating etc.

Hi Bill

DCAL Lake beside me Glencrawen, on Bank
Range of lines from floter to di 7 and all in between, range of Lures, Buzzers, Wets Drys, and all in between. I am an experienced angler but this form of fishing is a new world to me.

Three weeks since rainbows were stocked. They are likely to take anything that flashes past their nose. For two years + they've been fed on pellets and have not fully got used to natural food although they eat what they can find because they're hungry. Very often it's the weather conditions that dictate fishing tactics.
Plan 1 I'd start off with the floating line and a twelve foot leader fishing a damsel fly nymph or a Cat's Whisker with a varied retrieve
Plan 2 Floating line with an attractor fly and nymphs
Plan 3 Ditto with buzzers
Plan 4 Slow Intermediate line and lures
Plan 5 Di 5 line and Cats booby stipped in fast

I have to say without knowing your water these are pure guessess.

Good luck let us know how you got on.

BK
