I ventured out tonight at 8.15 for an hour on the dry fly, I took my new SLA 10' 5# rod, Greys GX500 loaded with a DT5 floater and a nice tapered leader, well, things didn't go to plan, the fish were slashing at the surface and seemed very occupied by what looked like a red spinner, I put one on and nothing, tried a sherry spinner, greenwells, tups and several others to no avail, I'm no entomologist and coudn't work out what to do, so I had a rest and let the midges have a meal, at 9.00 the fish had settled down and I moved to some faster water, I made up a three fly cast with a partridge and globrite red on the top dropper, a partridge and globrite orange on the middle and a partridge and globrite green on the point, all three flies had a copper rib, within half an hour I'd had a dozen or so trout to 10 inches on the green partridge, I went to the fast water at the top of the next pool and was hit hard on the first cast, I never saw the fish for a couple of minutes, I though it might have been an escaped rainbow from Tunstall reservoir, after it decided to do a few jumps and pirouettes it started to tire, as I was bringing it to a sandy bay to land it, it woke up and off again, I had to let it go, another minute and it was mine, a fine silvery 3 lb sea trout caught on a size 16 fly and 1.5lb point

.
If I don't catch another fish this year, I'll be happy with what I've got
