What's the most effective repellant for Midges guy's?

avon skin so soft.... stops them getting a grip on you so they cant bite... works a treat

Not been bothered by the wretched things since I working on the west coast of Eire. Back then only one thing worked it is called Autan. We used to use the aerosol spray. It smells awful, tastes even worse but it works. The git$ won't come near. I see Amazon sell it. Spray onto your hands and rub it into all vunerable areas. We used to double up so to speak with a mesh head/face mask thing. Good luck.

Iv'e said it many times.Go to the west coast of Scotland with only SSS and you'll be a basket cast in jig time,totall rubbish for real midges.
Autan,no longer has deet in it, so again useless.
Anything with 'at least' 30% deet should work,with bad areas at least 75% deet with a head net.

Use Caution When Using DEET

Chain smoking or puffing on a pipe work may do your health more harm than Deet though! I have always used Jungle Formula which while quite effective does not smell that wonderful, so will now give the Avon stuff a whirl, hope it works for horse flies too, plenty of those where I fish.

this is by far the biggest issue fishing the north west, never found sss that good, catnip essence is powerfull but expensive, 100% deet works but carries health issues if used too frequently, picardine based works for me, and doesnt leave you greasy and stinking, i combine Shoo with neem oil, both harmless, the biggest issue is the length of time you get after putting it on, Shoo is very effective but needs applications every 10 mins or so, deet lasts longer but not as nice on,
ultimately you really need a head net and expose no skin, and applying repellant before exposure.
