Default Barnsfold reservoir-how is it fishing?

Myself and 141saxon Dave are hoping to have a day on Barnsfold Reservoir tomorrow-Thursday 30 June-know it's short notice, but didn't know myself till a few hours ago. I know there was a forum meet there on Sunday and was wondering if anyone could tell me how it is fishing, what flies to use, etc. Thank You

Google Barnsfold on here and you’ll find plenty of previous advice.
Fished last Sunday evening ticket with Fritzcat and met some of the others who had come along. Had 7 between us (well, he had six and dropped as many), I had one, dropped half a dozen then at the end hooked a monster on a sz16 black buzzer that did three strong runs, 2 runs off the reel even with drag set, had me almost down to the backing. “Flanks like a dustbin lid” according to FC.
If the fish are showing try small buzzers black or olive either greased up tippet in the film or a suspender pattern. If they aren’t showing you should catch on a white lure, a fritz or minkie pattern fished deeper or booby off a Di3.
Also a good hatch of caenis present and they were interested in a sz20 white dry on Sunday. Some had caught on sedges too.
You’ll find it quite full of algae on the downwind banks at the mo so choose your spot.

Haven't fished a full day for while there so maybe someone else can also help on that?

Hi Flytier07

Barnsfold on Sunday 26th was hard fishing. It was far too hot and fish were well down and sulking. Some anglers, not in our group, kept pulling fish out on a static blob and a Di7 line. They just left their rods and waited for the fish to hook themself.

I found that later in the afternoon, when fish started to rise, nymphs and Diawl Bachs caught fish. Buzzers caught fish in the morning early on before the main heat of the sun.Barnsfold is a black buzzer water but often other methods work. The trouble is no two days are the same.Temperatures are dropping so the fish may be more cooperative. The chances are you will come across some local fishermen on Thursday I've found that they are more than helpful if you ask "What's doing well?"

Tight lines let us know how you got on.

BK

Good luck and Tight Lines
