Default WBT river fishing North Devon/Hartland Peninsula

July Family holiday in Devon this year north of Bude nr Hartland

Any advice on day or weekly river fishing appreciated. Looking for something close as it would for few hours in the evening with my son.

As ever not much room in car so limited tackle taking opportunity, so thought 7ft 6inch 3 weight.

I think Bude Angling has 3 miles on Tamar.

Any knowledge or help much appreciated.

Thanks

David

Stayed there two years ago but didn't get any fishing done. Did go to Upper Tamar Lake Nr Kilkhampton though for a look, which I believe you can get a day permit for. May need to up the rod size then though.

David the upper Torridge beats will be ideal for your 7'6" 3 weight. It's only a little stream up there and when I last fished up that way much of it was fairly overgrown. The Torridge is very lowland in character in the headwaters, meandering through fertile ground and usually a bit coloured. The trout are not going to pull you in but there is a chance (a very small chance to be fair) of picking up peal (sea trout) on dry or nymph.
It might also worth a look at the Half Moon in Sheepwash Half Moon Inn, Sheepwash - Traditional Devon Inn with Fishing and Accommodation they have beats right though the river which are well worth a look if you have a bit more time on your hands.

Brilliant thanks for that. Not sure I'll get more time on my hands as its family holiday but hoping to slip off early doors or late for few hours.

I believe the Upper Tamar Lake is now a coarse fishery...

leisure-activities/fishing/coarse-fishing/lower-tamar

Pity in some ways, as there are some nice references to trout fishing there in Charles Bingham's books.
