Default Yesterdays fishing....

Got back from my holiday yesterday from Tunisia. There was no fishing there! So I had to get my fix, even though the weather was against me. I started out about 4 and only tempted one on a damsel until 7:30 when the rise started. I fished at robinswood in frensham and was targeting about 10-20 trout constantly rising in one corner of the middle lake. I was using dries but I could see my leeder floating, much to my annoyance, and I didn't have any de-greaser and mud wasn't working. Are tapered leeders good for surface fishing? Anyway after many fish spooking at the last minute I changed to a pheasant tail and caught 3 within 15 minutes....the 4th snapped my line clean off so I called it a night.
Last night was one of the best evenings I've ever had in terms of the lake suddenly coming alive and fish feeding from the hatch. I'm not sure what they were feeding on but I saw a may-fly (is this normal for this time of year?) and did I catch on the pheasant tail because it resembled what they were feeding on or because I just cast in between lots of trout feeding and they took it?
