Post midge alert.

According to the experts, the coming months will be extremely bad for midges in the west, central & north of Scotland. So if the wife aint biting your ear off, about the amount of time you spend fishing. Then her female insect counterpart, will make up for that. Skin so soft & midg nets at the ready.

I'll second that, I'm one of the lucky people that isn't usually too bothered by them but this week I've been bitten constantly

I thought the harsh winter was meant to keep the numbers down!!

Although it smells like you've visited a ten-yen Tokyo *****-shop, Avon Skin-So-Soft body oil is still my go-to midge repellent - it works wonders for most folks I take fishing. You just have to be careful not to get it on the leader - it's a brilliant flottant!

I got bitten on my hands earlier this week. I actually woke up in the night itching! I'd dosed myself up with Skin-so-Soft but must have rubbed it off my hands when drying them after handling a fish. I'll be taking the bottle with me next time. I'll dig out that midge net I've never worn too!

SSS didn't work for me last week, it's usually ok but wasn't last week. I got bites on my eyelids and still suffering from them. I was advised to get the SSS on in advance, will try this next time. I purchased a pack of insect repel wipes while at inverary and they worked a treat. A yellow pack they came in, can't remember the name but worked a treat.

If you really can't take any more, pack the kelly kettle base and get a wee fire going.... this gives 10 mins restbite

check this, not sure if it's just a ploy to sell repellent....

The trouble with midge nets is that they obscure my vision... and in the gloom of an evening session, that's the last thing I want. The real reason I don't like them, of course, it that it's hard to have a ciggie with one on. Happily, chain smoking is an effective repellent.
