Default Tactics for Roseberry in Midlothian

Hi All

I have a boat booked on Roseberry in Midlothian on Saturday 2nd July and I was hoping that someone mught be able to give me the inside track on this water. I have beent told that it is stocked with rainbows but also has a good head of browns in it. Any advice re tactics, approach, set up etc, would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Tom

it was indeed Neil, had a great day although it was failry choppy. Trout were hard to tempt although I did get a couple around 3/4 lbs up towards the north shore. When you are on the water you could be forgiven for thinking you are on a highland lock. £12 for the day in a boat is difficult to beat.

Used to fish roseberry about 10 years ago but this will be my first time back since then. Will post to let you kow how I got on.

FYI - Spent a night on the Tyne at East Linton over the weekend and came away with two fantastic Sea Trout. Great fun and would recommend it if your local

Powerbait does well Fished it a couple of times and had mixed results, hit it on a good day and you will get them on dries and nymphs although the last time(march) I was there would swear there were no fish in it. It was cold, windy and bright so far from ideal. The size of the water means finding them is key though the bottom right hand corner near the house is productive as is the bait area where it kicks into the right up top if its quiet. Never caught a broonie yet though. Theres a good head of pike in there to some monsters seemingly keep meaning to give them a bash, had a few jacks on dancers. Keep us posted how you get on, tight lines

You did well to get two sea trout out of the Tyne. Were they decent sized fish? Plenty big fish in at the moment.

One was about 2.75 and the other slightly smaller. Both taken on teal blue and silver between 11:15 and 11:45 pm. Both fish returned safely (I don't like to eat fish would you believe). I have been surprise by the numbers of sea trout that I have seen on the river so far this season, I live quite close so take the dogs for regular walks along the banks. I think July should be a good month. It has been interesting to see the increase in the number of night anglers this season.
