Default John Norris floating line - is it me??

I've already got 1 replacement wf6 line from them and was very impressed with their customer service, but now I have the same problem with the replacement and just want to double check its not something I'm doing!

I've got a greys loop in the end but its sealed with superglue. The exact same happened with this one as the last one, as soon as I start fishing the tip is sinking, then, other sections further up start going too, but not from the tip down as you might expect if it was to do with water getting in the tip. For example the stuff at my feet as I retrieve sinks even though sections further out are still floating. Within an 1 1/2 hrs virtually the entire 30ft or so I'm capable of casting was subsurface to some extent. There is a definite bumpyness to the line I can feel with my fingers as I retrieve.
I didn't have this problem with the line I've replaced with it which was just a cheap mill end wf5.

So, is it a bad batch J N have got or is it something I've done?

Sounds very much like a bad batch to me. I bought a line recently, not a Greys I must add, it to had a bumpyness I could feel on retrieve. Clutching at straws I stretched it goodo for a few hours-looked straight. Nothing changed, still bumpy. Unless he has a new batch in I suggest you change to something else. May even get a free up-grade for inconvienence .

Chris.

Have you cleaned the line? Try a line cleaner, sometimes the chemicals on the line if used fresh from the packet mean that the lines sink. If cleaned and then treated with floatant you may find that it works really well.

regards

Cleaning it doesn't sound like a bad idea, although I did ask J N when I had this prob with the first one if I should have done something to the line before using it such as cleaning or using flotant on it. They just sent me a new one - I took from that that it shouldn't have needed it.

Cleaning and using floatant wont solve the bumpyness tho - is the bumpyness normal?

The line should be smooth and bump free.

Send it back.

If a new line isn't floating you should send it back. You're only going to have more trouble with it as it ages. IMHO it should do what it says on the tin.

had exact same prob with the JN floater, but the intermediate I got struggled to sink, never touched them since, and that was years ago, so I doubt a bad batch
