Most of my river fishing to date has been short range nymph fishing (Duo/Dual) but I had hoped to do a lot more dry fly fishing on the rivers this season. Now dry fly fishing does require a bit more skillful casting than I am normally capable of and so I took the opportunity today to join Frank Williams on one of his courses.
This was to take place on the Wye, but due to the overnight rain the river was rather coloured and running a little high (

- but at least the Wye regulars were happy) so we had to make do with the adjacent field. This was not really a problem as the day was intended to focus on casting anyway. So I spent the day learning about Piles, Wiggles, Mending (lots of this), curves, etc. Now if I have just lost you, and you fish on rivers, then you really should have been there today -
Frank Williams: Dry Fly Fishing.
Obviously I not an expert yet, but at least I know more now that I did yesterday and with Frank's clear and simple explanations of when and how each of these cast are performed I feel better equipped for the rest of the season and with more practice I'm sure my catches will increase.
We discussed a lot of other things as well as casting of course and it all made for a very informative day.
So my advice to anyone new to river fishing (or even stillwater fishing) or anyone more experienced but having a limited range of casting skills (like me) is to give Frank a call and I am sure you will get more from your fishing as a result
Thanks Frank, see you in a few weeks
