Wish I could help mate but I'm pretty new to the sport myself and I'm in your area and was wondering what free rivers you are fishing? As I would like a bash at river fishing myself. You are in the right place I'm sure you will get some very good answers also YouTube could help you out as well

How near Salford are you Dan?

If you join Salford Friendly Anglers (it's free via t'tinterweb) and come along to the next meeting the chaps go out for a couple of hours after on the river. We could go through a bit of mending then.
