Fished it yesterday, dodged the heavy showers and strong winds but there were spells of calm sunny weather so some good stalking conditions.
The usual stockies (5lbs - 7lbs) were very evident in all three lakes. Hard work spotting their bigger brethren but saw and targeted a few. Ended up with a Rainbow of 11:08 which was a bit lean but fought well. It wasn't in top class condition probably because of the big buzzer in its jaw, a bright orange thing impaled in its back (and trailing a fair length of mono) and a damsel in it's tail! Not good but pleased to have removed it from the lake.
Where's all the weed gone? Nowhere near the amount of luxurious weed cover of last year that I think is so important, particularly in the middle lake. The fish in that lake are typically now well out in the centre, highly visible when conditions allow, but very difficult to be selective when targeting the doubles (of which there were a couple).
First lake is almost crystal clear but the middle and top lakes are holding a fair tinge of colour (a reverse of a few weeks ago) which with the wind ripple means all you see usually is fuzzy shapes cruising around... 5lbs, 10lbs or 15bs???? Hard to be selective.
A few very nice conditioned browns in each lake but they typically stay very deep and in those conditions difficult to spot. I did find one in the first lake and spent many hours "on it" without a flicker of interest until it suddenly snapped at the stalking bug. On for a short while but then it was a case of the cast iron jaw syndrome again and it was gone. Well into double figures.
There's a corporate day today so double edged sword for tomorrow, maybe plenty of spooked fish left or, if they land a few, some nice fresh easy ones for tomorrow!
