The Wychwood Competition Fly Box is about A4 size and holds about 1000 fles - cost around £30

If you want a large lightweight flybox, you can make your own from a VHS video case.

I have three of the Wychwood 1000 flies viewfinder competition fly boxes and they're great. I'd guess they weigh about 8 oz each empty.

That fly box is bloody expensive and very misleading. I defy you to carry 1,000 flies in that vessel. If by a fluke you managed to cram in that amount with the smallest of buzzers, I would love to see you try and retrieve a single fly without disturbing the ones surrounding it.

You won't have to take out a second mortgage if you use the video cases, which will literally cost you pennies to own.

It does hold a 1000 ( nymphs ) easy, but your right it can be fiddly.Like i said i use mine as a mother ship and pluck the flies out with tweezers and put them into a smaller box which i take fishing

I only take all three when I'm in a comp. For my fishery I carry a small Wheatley
aluminium box.

Tiger Tuff Box like this (cheaper if you buy in bulk from Stationery - Office & Business Stationery Supplies - Ryman)

1 A4 + PLASTIC CLEAR DEEP STORAGE PORTABLE TUFF BOX | eBay UK

and 2 x A4 self adhesive foam sheets from Hobbycraft:

HobbyCraft Self Adhesive A4 Foam Sheets

lightweight, slim, can store as many flies flies as a Wychwood comp box and they float if you accidentally drop them over the side of the boat.

Here's a few photo's - not the best but you get the idea:
