Default Coniston - any tips?

Hi there,

I'm going with some friends to Coniston, and I'd like to take advantage of being on a boat on the water by doing a spot of fly fishing.

Does anyone have any tips for this lake? I was thinking: flies and depth etc? Does it have any stockies, or is it quite a natural lake - and therefore will I need to gear up for browns and char?

I'd really appreciate any advice off anyone that may have fished it in the past. I've asked my Dad, but he's only tackled Esthwaite and Windermere.

Very best regards,
Steve.

Hi guys, I was wondering maybe I've posted this in the wrong section of the forum. Keep me posted and I'll amend. Sorry if asking a poor question.

Just found this:

Coniston Water

It appears trout fishing has diminished over the years.

Thanks John, it's really appreciated. I either pike up or fish elsewhere I think. It doesn't seem like a very well stocked or considered trout lake. Sad really, it's very picturesque.

I've not fished Coniston for a couple of years, the general concensus seemed to be that it only got stocked early season and that fishing consequently tapered off through the year. Still defo worth a go though, there are some fantastic brown trout in there as well as the rainbows. Olive patterns (particularly wet) can do really well on the right day. Take an intermediate line as well.

I created this fly for Coniston, if you tie your own knock a couple up
