hi all.
i have been fly fishing for 2 years on the local reservoirs and fisheries in my area. this season i fancy trying the rivers in and around my area. i have got a stratch i can use from a farmer i know. there is a mixture of deep holes long runs shallows the lot. my question is when i cast to the other side my line bellies in the middle and drags my fly off course i am bank fishing as its not the widest. there are definately trout in there as i have had them on other methods from this stretch. can anyone help and explain the basic principles of river fishing. thanks

Sounds like a nice water to fish. You need to gain control over the fly and consequently the line. Mending the line is the process of offsetting the current by good use of the line.

same again today. fish were not taking the dries but my mate was spinning for pike and caught 3 brown trout to 2lb. (all returned) i will have a look at the links cheers.
