Default Fly line question.

This could be a dumb question but I have just bought a wf fly line and am going to attach it to the backing, do I attach the thicker end or the thin end?

Thanks

It should have a marker on it, saying "this end to reel" failing this I'd say the thin end if it's WF. if it were DT it wouldn't matter . . . . .
What make of line is it mate ??

Normally the tip is slightly thinner than the reel end of the running line, then gets gradually thicker after several ft.

The reel end stays thin for 30, 40 or more ft before it starts to get thicker.

Also, if line was new and coiled, the reel end would normally be on the outer coil.

It's a Cortland fly line, got it off ebay and didn't come in a box.

Mark,

Uncoil the line carefully on the lawn then put the two ends together and run them through your fingers. One end will start to get thicker after a few feet, while the other will not. The end getting thicker is the fly end and the one not getting thicker is the reel end.

This is just an easy way of identifying what Pitsford Pirate said.

If you unroll the line make sure you dont pull the line sideways off like a fixed spool reel.Stick a pen or rolled up mag through the centre of the spool and pull off in line with the spool or you will kink the line.Hope this makes sense

all the best Nick
