I doubt that there is a line designed specifically for that purpose. I would roll cast if I were you. If you don't know how, then learn how. It's priceless!

hard to guess not knowing the rod, the line, the weight etc, but a heavier one will load with less line out.

Yes there is a line designed for short casting, it's the Rio pocket water line. Great line. I should rather say, that it was designed with short casting in mind, but also cast far equally as well.
Bear in mind that the dymaics of short casting are the same as long casting. You need to know when the rod is loading, weather you can feel it or not. A lighter soft rod will hepl, but if you really struggle, get a casting lesson.

You guys are a hoot. A manufacturer of fly lines feeds you this nonsense and you take their worm like a smallmouth bass in heat.

Why not roll cast?

Generally speaking lines with a shorter head tend to load a rod better on short casts, however your long game will suffer from this. The running line on these lines are not build to carry the head that far beyond the rear taper so you have to shoot for distance..
Whichever way you spin it you will always suffer somewhere, little feeling up close but controlled long distance, or nice up close and hope and pray for distance..
I like to carry a long line were i have the space so i tend to use longer belly lines and take the little amount of load on the close casts for what it is.. If the waters i fish on only require short casts i would indeed go with short headed fly lines.. Or of course a softer rod..

Very nice equipment you have. When you say short casts, how short? Five, ten, twenty or thirty feet in total? How many feet approximately?

If you need to fish short, it generally means the fish are close. So, you need to do as little as possible to disturb them. Roll casting has the potential to spook the fish. besides, I challenge you to roll cast a 15 foot leader, with only 3 feet of flyline out the rod tip..... without disturbing the water. Generally, close fishing is done with a minimum of line and leader lying on the water, and to roll cast, you need to pick line off the water, besides, if he is struggling to cast short, the chances are, he will struggle more with a short roll cast.
The Rio pocket water is rated very highly by many top anglers for close in work... but you are right, a good technique is always best for close work. It's like anything else to do with fly fishing... the best kit isn't going to help a rubbish technique, but a good technique can be enhanced by the right kit.

Anything over 20 feet between fly and rod tip, is not a short cast.

Maybe under some circumstances where a 15' leader and 3' of fly line is the ticket then that person may want to use a spinning outfit when in these confined conditions.
