Default Braided loops v needle knot

Hi
I was flicking through one of the fishing mags and noticed and article about
the wake left by a braided loop.I use these all the time, what affect do you think this is having with takes or should i change to a needle knot.

Sometimes the wake is good!
makes fish look up at disturbance, sees fly, bobs your uncle!
is a bit unusual for braided loops to do this though!
they tend to sink even when on full floating line.
However they can and do act as sight indicator as to where the end of cast actually is.
needle knot/nail knot is a far superior method of attachment if tapering cast though, but not as simple to put on to end of fly line.
I use braided loops for most trout/salmon situations, and indeed some saltwater applications i.e. bonefishing.
cant say I have noticed any disturbing "wake" in their use.
regards
bert

I think whoever wrote the article was exaggerating the wake problem. I've fished with braided loops most of my fishing life and never experienced a problem. In truth the fly line itself can make small wake in certain circumstances and a braided loop really doesn't add much to this.

I switched to using a nail/needle knot on my clear intermediate line. I noticed that I could barely see the line, or my leader, but the braided loop stuck out quite brightly.

Then I saw a trout follow in my braided loop, that was it, it had to go

Don't use slime lines myself but how do you get on with that nail knot? ( i presume you don't mean needle as they have a mono core? ) as I'm sure i once read somewhere they don't like nail knots due to whatever the line is made off
