Default Redbournbury trout fishery

Does anyone know anything about this trout fishery. It is quite close to where I am working today and thought about calling in for a couple of hours.

Redbournbury Fishery provides both day ticket river and lake fishing.

Stocked with wild brown trout, the river fishing is a day ticket water with catch and release only.

While the trout lake, stocked with rainbows is a day ticket water with a 1 or 2 fish limit catch and release.

The trout lake is re-stocked on a monthly basis and it is now being stocked with larger rainbows, up to 8lb fish.

the venue looks a bit like a building site, but with everything being really green now, i guess its slightly more hidden.

Lake small, but with good fish, i've found the most effective methods by far are with small damsel nymphs or teams of buzzers fished under an indicator...if you feel slightly un pc () i hear the bigger and the more horrendous the looking of an orange lure, the better...last time i was down there i saw a guy take about 9 rainbows in perhaps 2 hrs on a fly not disimilar in size to a small pike fly...

River is very overgrown...i like that...the bottom of the river is very silty...Its a very technical river (which i like) and is reasonably priced (which i like)...the average stamp of fish is probably 8oz-12oz...but i've had em to just under 3lb... Best flies...size 16-20 Goldhead Black PTN or size 16 Adams parachute...don't use a rod any longer than 8' and no heavier than a 4#

I use a streamflex 6' 6" 3# and its perfect for the location

Hope that helps...

i think it was the mid 90's the population of wildies ceased on the ver (correct me if i'm wrong)

apparently, when John Dunckley(owner of redbournbury) bought the stretch, he put in a small head of brownies around 1996(?), around 8oz-1lb to re-populate the river, since then, they have come back in storm across the river...

they were initially stockies but the stockies have long since become wild...

The river was stocked in the mid nineties but has not been stocked since. So the fish in the river are classed as wild.

Rainbows are stocked in the puddle of a lake and worth fishing for if it has just been stocked. I think Charlie1234 got it right when he said something along the lines of "when you have cast four or five times you have covered the fish".

But having said that the place is an oasis in the wilderness compared to what else is on offer in the area unless you are prepared to travel.

The subject has been covered before and the search facility will reveal more if interested.
