Default cat fur dubbing...

Having just started tying my own flies, and having several cats, it seems like cat fur makes rather good dubbing.

Is there any reason not to do this? Smell or structure?

Tabby in particular seems very similar to hares ear, ginger seems quite close to tup wool, and black makes a very nice dark bug!

Might as well use the stuff somehow - just ends up clogging the hoover otherwise...

I know a salmon fisherman who ties a fly with the hair off his dogs, his wife's hair, and hair off a dead squirrel.

The fly catches fish.

Come to think of it, it's probably not worth thinking too carefully about what people might end up using!

My Shipmans Rottweiler buzzers are as good (if not better) than the usual SLF based Shipmans.

Well, let me know if this ends up working out because I can send you a freaking lifetime supply of dubbing.

Holy flying fur, Batman. I swear that since it got warm our cat has shed roughly 14 times more hair than he actually had. I mean, where does it all come from?

I took the cover off of my fishing boat last weekend and discovered that the cat had been under there using it as a warm place to catch a nap. The front casting deck was covered in about an inch of cat hair.

A possible other use comes to mind. I could insulate the house with it. At the rate he's shedding, I have enough to do the whole house to about an R factor of 24 by the end of the month.

I've got bag loads of fine dubbing hair from this one. His back hairs are coarser and darker and make excellent hairwings for salmon flies.
