Default footwear for boat fishing in wet weather?

Hi All,

With the wet weather I have resorted to wellies with gortex trousers over the top however i find that they grip on wellies in a wet boat is like being on an ice ring and also after a days fishing the wellies top edge digs into you calves.

I asked around my local lads and its seems a mixed bag of footwear from waterproof walking boots (£50) to muckers horse riding etc(and the orginal muckers from usa look great but (£70). On ebay i found a half ruberrised carp slipper thing but looks like it doesnt have enought cover if you were standing in pooring rain. Fine for walking in mud though.£16 or so. I got a set of full waders but find they get hot and sweaty if the sun does come out.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something like a half size wellie ideally shoe shapped that probably has rubber just to cover your ankle? I was initially looking for a full sized croc kind of shoe but didnt have any luck. Incidently dont want to pay more than 25 -30 quid.

Get a pair of sailing wellies. Best grip of all.

i bought a set of these by mistake a few years ago.
they were indeed yacht boots.fantastic in the boat but useless on wet grass when i went shootingwhich is why i bought them
fairly inexpensive at around £50.

Yep I use Gill Cruiser sailing boots they are excellent and only £25

and before anybody who has fished with or knows me says I look a bit of a plonker in my boots and shorts, I don't actually care as they do the job

I'm not letting you get away with that. You do look a plonker in those sailing boots with shorts.

I've just cut the top half off my wellies so they don't dig into my calves.

Being a finely balanced athlete, I've not noticed any problems with a lack of grip.

Do you get Xtratuf brand boots over there in the UK?

They make a 6 inch boot that I think would be ideal for wet weather boat fishing. Also worth considering would be the 12 inch Xtratuf boots. This is shorter than the usual below-the-knee wellie and I think it's a lot more comfortable for wearing in boats and other wet surfaces where the extra height is not needed as it is for walking in mud or standing water.

Xtratufs seem to have a sole that has a lot better grip on flat, wet surfaces compared to traditional farm type wellie boots that are designed with a harder sole presumably so they last longer.
