Default New To Dry Fly - best fly-floating product?

Hi All

Had a beautiful wild brown trout on a big old dry fly and, like the fish, I'm hooked. Might even be time to hang up my nymphs for the Summer!

But . . . what's the best all round product to make your flies float?

(I'm on a small river if that helps)

I've heard good things about Gink but also wondered about this, the E-Zee dust'n'dry powder.

Watershed, just one drop, rub it in and let it dry overnight, but beware it will float like a cork! You might want to use gink or similar to fish in the surface film, just rub a wee spot on the part you want to float

Hi,

I use Gink too and it seems OK. I snip off the hackles underneath the fly to make it sit in the surface more and put Gink on the top. Put it on before the fly is wet and degrease the leader right up to the fly eye.

I put it in the water at my feet for a few seconds to make sure it looks good before casting it out.

Hope this helps.

Tight lines!

Nick.

There is currently no such thing. Nowadays it is best to have a small arsenal of products at your disposal:

Amadou to dry the fly off, (except in heavy rain)
Supafloat to dip the fly in before you start
Aquel if no Supafloat available to you (or Gink)
High and Dry to dry and reproof the fly in wet weather
Frog's Fanny to reproof the fly in dry weather
