Default Mayfly on Grafham

A few weeks ago whilst fishing a comp with Gadusamora and Sunray a number of mayfly were seen by us all coming out of Savages, I kind of forgot about it but then yesterday I saw them again trickling off between The Seat and Gaynes Cove.
I have never heard of mayfly on Grafham but this is definitely not a case of mistaken identity as I know what a Mayfly looks like and as I say I wasn't the only one to see them.
I haven't seen any rise to them, but the gulls were picking yesterday, I stopped fishing and parked in the middle of the hatch and gulls were picking for them as they emerged around me, normally the boat pushes the gulls away but these seed to like what they were eating enough to ignore me.

Just wondered if anyone knew if they have always been present or if it's a new thing?

Well Andy, everyone else who fishes Grafham either thinks I'm mad or they thought they were dreaming when a big mayfly sailed past I certainly couldn't believe my eyes for a start.
I know they have been hatching out of Savages on more than one occasion this year so I will be surprised if no one else has noticed them.

With the amount of shrimp that I found on the anchor weed every time I pulled it up and the amount of buzzer this year and now mayfly, that place is just full of food

I've seen mayfly on the Ouse in St Ives, which 'aint' a million miles away, and I believe water is pumped from the Ouse into Grafham. I think the mayfly I saw were Vulgata not Danica.
