Default Flat calm @Lake of meinteith

Help !!!
Hi Chaps,

Need so advice for fly selection when the lake is flat calm.

I near launched my rod in the water the other night in frustration. I tried every suspended thing ,every buzzer .This happens evey time when it goes flat calm i just can not seem to get what they are looking for eventually i give in and pull some gaudy lure/blob thing to stir some kind of interest with minimal sucess.

Any ideas ?
Yogi

Flat calms are a pain.
I would probably try a goldhead Damsel to try and get down a bit to start with.

Most of my fishing is rivers but in my humble opinion if its a flat calm most of the flies that hatch off will not be able to break through the surface film and will be stuck there so if you see fish coming up that is were they will be feeding, just under the surface so i would think some sort of emerger might do the trick.
