It's surely going to be difficult to tell the weight as in 7 or 8. Could you not hazzard a guess by the rods it may have been used on? Failing that next best would be to try it on a 7-8wt rod, see how it feels.

Just measure and coil up the first 30 feet of line as paramedicpete suggested - don't worry about the additional line - just weigh the first 30 feet - it will tell you exactly what AFTM number the line is.....very quick and simple. If you don't have accurate scales, go to the nearest post office.
