Default Tippet, Tarn and Lochan

When you are fishing tarns or lochans that contain predominantly brown trout under 1 lb, how light/diametre should your leader/tippet be?

I only ask because I have never fished for such small fish!

Many thanks

I'd stick with 5lb as an all rounder. Might want lighter for dries in calm conditions but there's always the chancer of a right thumper in some of these out of the way places. Some people I know fish heavier but 5lb works for me.

Your tippet should only be as light as your rod can protect from smashes. The lighter the rod (and line) the lighter your tippet can be. If fishing a 3 wt rod and line, you can get away with very light (2lb) tippets, if your fishing a 7 wt, i wouldn't go less than 7 or even 8lb.
