Default Frozen shoulder..........

Hi all, last xmas my trusty right shoulder decided to give up on me, i was taken into hospital for a lovely over night stay and told i had a frozen shoulder. ( google it if you dont know what it is, f*****n hurts!!)
I was then told it could last for up to 2 years in a seized up state, luckily enough it only lasted a month but i still suffer pain and it tightens up again. trouble is im only 30 and im a joiner for a living so i kinda need it.
I fish alot of still waters and i just cant wave my 10ft 8wt around, even my 9'6" 7 wt is starting to make me feel the grind after a few hours.
Realistically how lighter rod can i fish with on still waters? would i get away with a 5wt? my current rods are g tecs so they dont weigh a ton.
Also if anybody else has suffered this and could give advice then that would be great

Hi
Did it originally start suddenly? If so not a frozen shoulder especially unlikely with your age, more likely to be a rotator cuff tear or similar hence ongoing problems so get some treatment.

See GP ask for Physio referral or go Private.

Hi i was at work one day and through out the day it got worse until on the evening i couldnt move my arm at all, the pain was un bearable, dont like to admit it but i shed a tear it was that bad and relentless, even the morphine didnt take much of an edge of it.
it was a shoulder surgeon/specialist that diagnosed me with it.

I have had problems with mine since i has 18 when i tore the ligament that keeps your shoulder together and doing Martial arts i always seem to re-injure it maybe once a year and then comes the long process of doing weight training to strengthen it right back up again.

Hi there.
I sympathise with you over this as I had similar trouble several years back.
My problem was a suspected trapped tendon and like you, I had pain right down the whole arm.
Fortunately, in my case it was my left arm but it became so bad I couldn't drive as it hurt too much changing gear.
My gp referred me to the physio and I was given laser treatment to apply heat directly to the problem area.
This made a huge difference and the pain was more or less gone after 2 or 3 treatments.
I still get an occasional bit of discomfort if I've been doing anything really strenuous but no where near as bad as it was.

I my opinion yes you would get away with a #5but it might be worth going to a casting instructer to see if he could alter your casting so it was not as painfull.I too have also had a bit of trouble with my right shoulder and have altered my casting so i am only useing from my hand to the elbow and not the full arm for casting still get some pain but not as bad as it used to be.

Hopefully one of the casting gurus will be along in a bit.

But if it's an injury, surely dropping down in rod/line size won't make any difference. Sorry if that sounds all doomy & gloomy not supposed to.

I would have thought that you've been doing something, either at work or play that is biomechanically wrong.

Perhaps a modification in your casting is the answer.

Assuming your GP has no objections in your particular case you might find a massage would do wonders. My wife often gives me a back & shoulder massage after a hard-day's casting and the results are amazing - all on the back of a book from the library...
