Default SAGE VXP vs Orvis Hydros

I know this has been asked before but it was a while ago, and the rods have been out longer now. I am looking for a new 10ft 7wt rod and have narrowed it down to the above 2 models. I have done a fair amount of research and both rods generally get good reviews. I doubt I will get the chance to test the rods side by side, so just wondered if anyone has any experience of either / both rods.

Get a copy of Just-out Fly Fishing and Fly tying mag. Reviews of many 10 foot 7wts, including above.

Interesting - what comes top ?

Helios is wonderful IMO, but ridiculousuly expensive if you buy it here.

John, I asked the same question late last year when I was after a new 5wt and 7wt and managed to get to GAC to cast them side by side along with a few others. I decided to go for the hydros in 10ft 7wt and the VXP in 9ft 5wt. I felt the hydros was a better distance casting tool in the 7wt which is what I was after. The 5wt VXP is probably my favourite carbon rod and IMO a better all round fishing rod but overall, for stillwater fishing, I preferred the hydros 10ft 7wt.

I also think the rock solid Orvis warranty is another plus point after having a nightmare with a broken Loomis a last year.

Would be interested in which rod came out best in the Flyfishing and Flytying mag, and how they rated the VXP and Hydros. I havn't had time to go and get it yet.
