Default Steve Parkes: a artist in making fly rods

I don’t want to be seen as advertising the AtomSix fly rods but I want to tell you about one that he designed for me and my friends a Fly Fishing Masters.
I have been fly fishing for more that 30 years and in the last 20 I have been co-operating with Italian and international companies that make fly rods.

Until now I had thought that the way they work is standard until I met Steve.
I had never seen his rods nor had I heard about him until the last BFFI when my friend Philip Bailey introduced him to me.
We wanted to design a new rod – a 7’6” 3 weight for our Italian style of casting. We had talked to a few people but we ended up giving the project to Steve and his AtomSix rod making business.

I want to emphasize not only the professionalism of Steve but also his innovative approach to working with us. He sent 3 prototypes to me for testing in record time. But it was when I got his last prototype that I gave him the okay. What a wonderful rod.

But what really impressed me what the quality and beauty of the design.
Do me, Steve is one of the best rod makers that I have encountered.

Max

You can have the perfect fly, tied with excellent materials but if you do not present it in the right place and in the best possible way, it serves no purpose! Massimo Magliocco

Max, I agree, Steve makes a very fine rod. I have a 4# 9ft he made for me.
A truly great rod, in fact for me it is one of the best rods I have ever cast or fished with.

Max I look forward to meeting with you again at the BFFI.

Steve sold me a 6'6" #3 rod he built last year. He took the time to hand deliver it and we went for a wander to my local river for a few casts, along with some of his other creations.

I brushed it off for a quick go on a small stream at the weekend. It's a lovely little rod, full of life.
