Default HOT weather

Hey!

With the HOT weather gone for a bit I want to go fishing tomorra, what are your thoughts on how it will fish?

It's a smallish still water so with the warm weather the trout wasn't taking, because of this cooler weather + rain will it cool the water down to much again affecting them lol

There is no doubt that hot weather affects trout so does sunlight and high winds.Rain and cooler temperatures are not so bad although fish sense changes in atmospheric pressure and it can put them off the take.

It's hard to tell you how some strange fishery will fish coupled with weather changes. You have to read the signs on the day and fish accordingly.

You have to know what level the fish are at by experimentation and decide on your own strategy. If you name the fishery someone on the Forum may have fished it recently and give you better advice than me.

It should fish a bit better now thgings are a cooling down.

Rainbow's optimum tolerance for water temp is 55-65 degrees. In my limited experience I have found that in small waters that do not offer cooler deep water that the trout do feed early morning before the temperature rises and then they can become very difficult to almost impossible to catch.

A small water approx 2 acres that I fished a few days ago had a marginal water temp of approx 68 degrees and that was at 8am, the trout were still moving and feeding yet soon as the air and ground temp started to rise the trout stopped feeding and activity ceased by 10am, also this small water also has no stream or airator sytem and as trout have a high oxygen demand then that is also something to consider, I will not fish this water now until the Autumn as I feel the trout will offer poor sport and it is not fair on the fish to endure the warm water, the lake I feel should probably be left fallow for the summer.

If the still water you fish can offer deep cool water then I have found the trout will go down there when the surface layers warm.

Alternativly find a resservoir, that will fish better when its warm.

I fished a small (2 lakes at 6 acres each) still water near Norwich yesterday and it was HOT HOT HOT!!

Fished between 12-4.30pm and struggled; plenty of visible fish moving around that I was able to cast to but zero interest. One in particular was cruising around a bay in a big lazy circle and refused every fly I threw at it; ignored 3 flies that were slap bang in front of its nose at the right depth.

Picked up one on a GH Montana a bit deeper but will be going back at dawn or in the evenings next time
