Default Poachers

Has anyone successfully dealt with poachers or heard of successful methods as my local river The Blythe in Warwickshire is being overwhelmed by Travelling people poaching at will. Having had one serious personal "run-in" I contacted the Environment Agency through their emergency no. on my Fishing Licence and was so dismayed with their response, as it was just a number of reasons why they were unable to respond. The police too give nothing but reasons why they cannot respond and I am not surprised as most senior police officers appear to be nothing more than accountants these days with no interest in tackling crimes such as poaching and suggest that it is more a civil matter than theft !!!!
I am about to throw in the towel and resign from my club as the worry about tackling these parasites of society is spoiling my fishing. These .............. are thriving due to the protection and backing of organizations such as the "European Court Of Human Rights", "Liberty" and "The Politically Correct" who in their priority of protecting the rights of criminals and terrorists are degrading the quality of life and the rights of the majority.

Just inform your keeper. He/she should be qualified to carry out the necessary prosecutions on your behalf, funded by your annual subs of course. What Convention right has been engaged by the way?

We have the same issues on our river. Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire police forces have specialist departments set up to deal with the problem and have given us numbers we can use to call them direct. It would be worth seeing if Warwickshire police have the same.

Thanks for your reply but it is widely known that the police have difficulty in bringing in any prosecution against a "moving target" ie. persons with no fixed abode and who vanish to another part of the country to be exchanged with a replacement who is given the "local knowledge" and who just takes over. My last club which also had poaching problems had a retired senior police officer on the committee and poachers still came at will. It just seems that "travelling people" play our weak system and they don't get expensive caravans and 4x4's through selling clothes pegs and lucky White Heather any more ! Nor do I think for one moment that they pay Income Tax on their ill gotten gains so they are not going to be worried about the consequences of poaching.

Personally, I think there is a far quicker method of dealing with the low down dirty scum..........

EDIT: oops, just re-read the OP and didnt realise it was referring to Travelling Folk and now understand how my post could have been taken.

Nothing of the sort - was talking about poachers in general. Poaching for the pot when in need is understandable but not all the time and threatening folk too.

Thank you for your reply but ours is a small club without a dedicated keeper and each member is required to approach fishers along the bank to establish right-to-fish.
There are more retired members than young and capable members so unfortuneately their presence is no deterrent. On saying that, a serving police officer was apparently threatened in one of the last incidents so I wait to see if he can come up with a solution.
Regarding the Convention right issue, society is prevented from chasing away these lawless individuals and is obliged to provide them with temporary sites, which I find unacceptable, knowing that the majority,if not all of them do not contribute to society in any way.

Seriously how would you deal with them? its easy to sit back and make flippant remarks when these **** holes get away with stealing in broad daylight, imagine you are the fishery owner, you have spent thousands on stocking your water only for them to be poached and no one gives a toss?? what would YOU do?

Perhaps if you came home regularly to find your possessions stolen and your home trashed you would have a different view. Wouldn't you turn mentally ill if you were scared to go to sleep in your own home for the fear of intruders or are you totally subservient ?
