Default stocking a private pond?

My inlaws live in mid Wales & have a spring fed piece of water, somewhere between 1/2 & 3/4 of an acre. They've said I'm welcome to stock it & fish it as my own private water if I want to, which obviously I'd love to as the setting is stunning.
Can anyone offer any advice on where on where to start with something like this, or anyone had any experience of doing something similar?
Thanks in advance
Dave.

With the pond being spring fed but not knowing anything else I would suggest 100 ten inch trout per acre. If you want bigger fish cut the numbers down. If the pond has not been used for fish before it may be full of pond life. Fish need a regular supply of food as well as the fresh water which should be Ph neutral. If in doubt feed your fish with trout pellets. This will unfortunately make them much easier to catch.
This book may help.
"Making and Managing a Trout Lake" by Rupert Barrington ISBN 0 85238 126 3

Contact the local EA office. As the water is not currently a fishery it will have to be registered as such BEFORE it can be stocked. Once this is in place you can obtain your Section 30 Consent from the EA and order your fish.

Is that the case even if it's for private use only?
There's no chance of it ever being used as a commercial fishery, just for me to play with.

What input do EA have?
Just i am inquisitive, as they certainly do not need to be contacted in Scotland!

Bert, it would be the same as in England except that you would have to contact the EA Wales.

If its on private land, just stock it and charge the EA with civil tresspass if they come near it.

I've read through the EA guide very quickly & it makes sence, as much as anything to protect the fish stocks & general wildlife balance further downstream, as it is the source of a small stream, which obviously leads on to bigger things later on.
Although, the water itself is't shown on an OS map, but can be seen on google earth.
I'll do some more reseach & get in touch with EA & have a chat with them.
Might be too much work, but certainly does appeal to have my own private spring fed, perfectly clear water in the hills..
