Default 10ft 5# recomendations

Hi guys,

Anyone use or could recommend a 10ft 5# ? There are plenty of 9fts available but there doesnt seem to be the same amount of 10ft'ers around.

Cheers.

I've bought a Snowbee Diamond 10' 5/6wt that I'm very happy with, as it's last seasons model (the new ones I believe are rated to a single weight) it came in at £80 delivered.

Hardy Marksman Drifter comes in a 10 ft 5#. Not tried one, and pricey! The 10ft 6# was lovely though.

Loomis Streamdance if it's still available. Expensive but superb.

I have a 10ft 5# Orvis Western 3, I really like it, reasonably priced also.

How about a Greys Streamflex 10' 5wt the older version. John Norris might have one at half price, mines the Dogs Nuts.

Sage z axis 10' 5wt for me. Wouldn't part with it for anything else.

Markman drifter is a lovely rod, along with a cortland sylk line (or a DT when wind is light) it's a great dry fly and nymphing rod for the lough. action is soft enough to protect light tippets.
There are very few 10ft 5# with a FW handle which I prefer in the boat.

However the £100 price hike that this rod received the start of the year was probably too much to justify if I was buying again. Although obviously give Grommit a ring for a price!

I had the streamflex but always felt it lacked any back bone but i am used to much faster rods and it always felt a bit alien to me and took too much adjustment to enjoy. The new XF2 looks interesting and I know Trout hunter and Dooras won one each recently, so they may be worth contacting to see how they got on with it on the lough.

If I had the choice again I think I'd be tempted with a custom build 10ft #5 z-axis with an full wells handle from the US.

Just remembered that Grangers have all z-axis on sale currently, had a few good deals there recently. they have a 10ft #5 with £200 off - http://www.grangersfishing.com/shop/...27ee06a5f42096
