Default Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke engines

We have been using Yamaha 2 stroke engines for years and they will go on forever. We bought one of the newer light weight 9.9 4 stroke Yamaha engines a couple of years back and it went wallop today.

The whole drive shaft desintegrated right through the casing of the engine. I have since heard of 4 other people who have had problems with these engines. Would love to hear from others who may have had similar problems and if they got any satisfaction from Yamaha.

It's such a shame as we have 10, 2 stroke yamahas and they never give any bother. Buyer beware on the 4 stroke version I'm afraid

Not a happy camper

No Bert. But I can see where the question came from. It looks like the bearing at the bottom of the shaft gave way initially and it kept on breaking down until the shaft came right out through the casing just above the prop.....unreal.

Sorry about your Engine and a totally unrelated question, but how would you compare the power of the 9.9hp 4 stroke to a 8hp 2 stroke ?
I believe, rightly or wrongly that they give about the same speed is that correct ?

edit
you say light weight 4 stroke ? didnt know there was such a thing
