Default Bait vs Fly

Ok so I'm going to fish a bait/fly water on Saturday. Just wondering what everyones opinions on these waters are.
More importantly from the bank can a artificial fly really compete with a real bait?

A fly made of feathers & artificial materials. Vs a big juicy worm, a bunch of maggots or a big 'dod' of powerbait.

Do I stand a chance?

Yes you stand a very good chance, 1 of Temple lakes is an any method lake and i can out fish most worm chuckers on it.
Buzzers could be the way to go and not so much feather, but saying that if its newly stocked a cat's whisker could do the job.

I recently purchased 3 different types of powerbait purely out of curiosity and i haven't caught a thing with them?!

I was also fishing on the wensum one time with a little black and red buzzer .... 2 guys were trotting worms in the same pool and I caught lovely little brownies and they left with nothing

I think it all depends on the conditions, presentation, mood and feeding habit of the fish on the day etc... I guess they all have thier place and time.

You defo do have a chance. In my opinion a confident fly fisherman will out fish a bait fisherman 95% of the time. You are covering alot more water and depths and if the fish are on buzzers or drys you are laughing

A few of the Welsh lakes are any method and a Cats Whisker tends to out fish my mate on worm it gets a bit closer if he ties on a spinner

Although have a look at one of the other posts Cat Food (Pouch / Meaty variety) may be the way to go

If this is the case why are fisheries so worried about poachers using bait - if the average fly fisher can out fish a size 10 packed with powerbait and a swimfeeder full of maggot

Poachers work at night and fish feed differently, but the owners may not be worried about what bait just that the fish are not being paid for.

Its not easy poaching with a fly rod if you have to hide in bushes, makes casting a wee bit hard.

Hannningfield is any method and we normally outfish the spinners and bait guys massively.

The issue with bait based poaching is that it is much easier to bait fish at night, in tough weather and with little coaching so a "poor" bait angler, or just someone who went out and bought a starter kit and some pellets can take a lot more fish than the same person who just came out of the lodge with a shiny new fly outfit.
