Default Sedges - when?

Just wondering when I should expect the sedges to start appearing. It hasnt been a warm summer so far and its still only early june but due to get warm soon, so am hoping to see some decent hatches soon - or an i expecting things too early?

I'm based in limerick, and fish the Mulcair and tributaries, and the Bilboa.

Also - are sedges more associated with faster moving riffly water, than slow moving rivers?

Tks

Plenty coming off the Inny in the evenings and a few of a few different species on the Lough as well , please don't ask me what type they are

The last 2 Lough fish and some of the River fish I posted in pictures of fish were caught on sedges

Some small dark-coloured (black) sedges been hatching on the reservoirs over near Sheffield for weeks.

You really need a copy of John Goddard's Waterside Guide to identify them, and the times they're likely to hatch.

I've noticed large black sedges at my reservoir in Barley , Burnley, Lancashire. They appeared when there was some mild sunny weather for a few days before the high winds settled in May.

I havent seen them since.

Just like seeing the first LDO's take to the air in spring, the sight of sedges flying like mad things is a heart warming site.

I dont fish stillwaters anymore, but i used to use an Invicta when they were on , and it was very effective.....

Its funny you should say that as I saw my first sedge of the season in April, it was sitting on my waders it was one of the larger ones and more brown in colour.
