Default Tackleshops that charge above RRP?

Does your tackleshop charge above RRP?

I just bought a Sharpes Gordon 2 and Vison deep reel and when i got home i found i could have bough both alot cheaper as the dealer charged me above RRP and then took 10% off to make it the RRP on the rod and £5 above on the reel.

I know some places are expensive and you get some good service from shops but how can we justify supporting them when we're being taken for mugs.

Maybe i'm naieve and there is a thing called "Hampshire tax" im not aware of!

There is a tackle shop in the Ribble Valley and their fishing tackle, fly tying materials, and thousands of other bits and pieces tend to be more expensive than other local shops or MRRP. Because its in a good class area it seems to be the justification to up the price.I only shop there if I'm desperate and certainly wouldn't buy anything expensive like a rod.

hello yes there seems to be a RRP here and rip off from the dealer, i think many try to do as the other forum member said a more wealthy area, you could write to explain or go back in and complain but i dont think the owner would worry in your case, but where does this leave you!!. maybe use another shop next time after checking prices on the internet if cant wait to buy, or try off the forum, i have sold, swapped, and purchased, off here and by and large have found ok, anyway i hope you enjoy using your new rod and reel,

It amuses me when certain dealers advertise online with "ONLY" written in front of every price even though the price shown is full RRP-what do they take us for (Mmm)

all the best Nick

Yes i get your points.. I know if we all bought from the web there wouldnt be a place where we could have a feel of rod in hand or buy good quality flies etc...

The sharpes rod in question is going up as sharpes themselves are increasing the price but he made out he was holding its current price at 175 even though its 168 at MRRP. So the 10% off was just a smokescreen. I later found i could have bought the rod in question for 130. I'd have been happy paying the 152 as i got some good advice.

I actually asked him was he going to set up a website but he declined saying that people come to the shop for advice and thats whay sells. Then another posh rupert pipped up and said he couldnt agree more.

I'm self employed and earn a good living but that doesnt give vendors the right to charge what they want and treat us like mugs. Isnt it law not to charge above MRRP?

As they say, it takes two to tango. The shop had the rod in stock to sell to you and you had the money to buy the rod. You completed the transaction and both of you got something you wanted.

It's too late to decry later that you 'could have got it cheaper', but them you might have had to wait at least 24 hours or up to three weeks for delivery (depending if it was in stock, post etc).

Enjoy what you have got and go fishing.

Wouldn't be the one in a little town beginning with 'c' by any chance, plenty of staff, high prices and although some local knowledge, technical advice tends to be a bit ropey??????????????

I bought a coarse rod for my grandaughter who was coming to stay for a week and wanted to go fishing. I paid 60.00 for it. It was a spur of the moment purchase when I realised she may have to use one of my rods .

The following week I saw the exact same advertised in a coarse mag for rrp 29.99 . Not well pleased! I took it up with the shop (I was courteous and spoke quietly) and listened to the usual 'last years model' excuses; it was not. Anyway he gave me 20 back and asked me not to visit their shop again. No problem-git .

I always try to support local business but sometimes wonder why.

Chris.

No its not illegal to sell above the mrrp as it is just that - the recommended retail price - they can offer it for sale for whatever they like but you can also choose where to buy especially in this age of online shopping.

I'm all for supporting local shops and tapping into their local knowledge but also like to get a bargain - maybe if you'd checked out the prices beforehand you could have haggled him down. Not much help now obviously

RRP & MRRP are just that Manufacturer's Recommended Retail Price some shops see it as the max price some other do not. Only options you have is to Vote with your Feet and go somewhere else that has a policy that fits your feelings on the matter.

Unfortunately not RRP or MRRP are just that - Recommended, it's up to the shop to set the price or for you to haggle - Invitation to treat and all that legal mumbo, jumbo.

Just to make you feel better (not) I know that the list price for said rod is £107.26p
