Default Cat Food Poacher

Hi Everyone

Our fishery is remote so we get poachers. One leaves behind empty cat food pouches after each of his visits.

I have a feeling that cat food chunks are used for Carp fishing. Does anyone know how effective a bait this is for trout? I'm just trying to gauge roughly how many trout we loose when he visits.

BK

Hello.
Cat food is a very popular and effective bait for carp Match fishing either as chunks or put in as a slop, depending on how it is being used and if he can connect to every bite about 1or2 fish a sachet at a rough guess.

Colin.

No info on Trout but a guy was fishing Cat Food opposite side of a Pond to me on the weekend while I was having a NOTsuccessful go for the pike and he was pulling all sorts of fish out all day Roach Rudd Carp Gudgeon Tech Bream so much so I went over for a gander and that’s when I saw the Cat Food asked some questions and was amazed how it was only in the water a few seconds and the float disappeared each time.

It looks a useful device. We may invest in one. Unfortunately two sides of our fishery are public footpath though at dead of night I dont expect honest people will be about.

This is exactly the sort of information I need. I had a feeling that it may be a pretty effective bait. When the guy starts coming regularly again, this season, the Club is going to have to nail him.

yes tiss a sorry problem for you all with your fishery, maybe that gadget might help but quite expensive, though a few trout stolen is a price too. have you thought to hide at night in pairs and catch red handed? some night vision binos, it seems carp are still on the menu for foreigners having seen a 30llber in the thames recently last night 2 men(not english) were pre baiting there before dark, (feeding ducks was the reply)

All the gadgets in the world are all very good, but you would be much better with a two man team and a good hiding getting dished out.

Cat food would be more attractive to fish that have a good sense of smell such as carp.I believe trout feeding is more based on visual stimulation such as colour ,shape and movement
Without wishing to stereotype, carp is a delicasy in some countries so they may be the target

all the best Nick

No Carp in the reservoir in question, only Trout, Rainbow, (wild) Brown and Blue plus Minnows and Sticklebacks.
