Default Crowdy Reservoir

Hi Everyone

Just wandering if anyone has fished Crowdy Reservoir near Camelford. I found it on the internet and was thinking of chucking a fly or two up there next weekend with my daughter (weather permitting).

I have never been there so some information on the usual stuff like areas to try and flys to use would be a great help.

I am thinking along the lines of a more traditional loch type set up, three flys something imitative on the point, something shiny in the middle and something bushy on the top dropper as I believe its a brown trout water.

Cheers

Ian

Not fished there in years but its never been a place where you are going to get many fish, hence it being free to fish there.
If you do go! a cast of 3 traditional wets may tempt a small brownie or two,
b/butcher, invicta, Kate mac etc
good luck
Mike

Colliford has been fishing well as it was stocked this year, when you thinking of fishing? maybe we could meet up and maybe have a brew from my Kelly kettle.

I'll be at temple tommorow morning and then might even hammer my wallet a bit more and pop in to Colliford.

Never turn down a brew from a Kelly.

If anyone is in the area maybe see you somewhere

I was thinking of going on Saturday (try and miss some of that Cornwall show traffic though).

I must admit I have been to Colliford and it's a lovely place, but not knowing the water and the size of it I've just found it a bit daunting. What flies and areas would you reccomend for there?

I have hooked fish on cochy-y-bondu's, not sure if I spelt that right, I have also hooked fish on blackcrunchers and doobry's. Never seen much if any fly life apart from the odd damsel and caddis, most of the insects I would imagine are terrestrial. Also rekon brown muddlers would be worth a try as I have seen alot of tiny fish in the margins that I assume are Parr and if they are then I am sure the larger brownies would have one for supper.

As for the best area's well I ceratinly have not found them yet, It has always been blowing a hooly when I have been so the wind usually dictates where I am gonna fish.

Crowdy I have only fished once, I only saw the odd tiny wildie sipping flies too small to imitate.I tried my smallest flies but never had a bite ahem sorry I meant pull .....I did speak to an older bloke who I asked if there were any trout in here and he relplied that there were not any fish at all in Crowdy. I thought this a little strange as he was standing there telling me this whilst holding a rigged up fly rod in his hand ? He then realised the folly of his statement and told me that he was up here to practise his casting ??. I said no more and left him to it with a wry smile on my face.

Well its blowing a hoolie again so see how my first go a temple goes and the maybe off to Colliford after.
