Was just wandering if anyone out there has found a better homemade basket / tub ??? than the

Stripping basket's (has link with photo bucket in it)

£2.00 (price maybe a bit out of date by now)

Why the ikea bowl is best :-
1)Strong flexible plastic (designed for a kid to stand on)
2)nice shape to fit again waist or side of leg ie banana shaped
3)plastic wont fracture when thrown down on rocks in back of car etc and heavy kit dumped on top of it etc.

Limitations
1) a bit too small for loads of line and backing when casting a mile

If anyone has found a better plastic tub please post up.

supermarket washing up bowls fracture too easily if dropped in my experiance but offer more space.
plastic big carry shopping baskets are too heavy and dont really give you freedom of movement.

well how spooky is that the wife just made me one out of an old groundbait fold up bowl and a old bum bag, but the tray was abit small so got another bowl from my local tackle shop which is about twice the size 6.99,i put a couple of holes in it for drainage via a hot skewer and its done, she going to stitch that to the bum bag, the last one worked ok apart from size ok for fig8 and short retrieves but not long strips, this new one should sort that outgaz

ps prefer the less ridged stripping basket so cant really put spikes in it, plus less weight which i need, but good jobby though, could have used wire like the rods used in welding for the spikes, but might come up with some idea for my basket to have some sort of cone or spike , got me thinking now, just need one due constantly stepping on my line and getting loads of mud on it, clean me after every trip, but still does the damage. gaz

This foam pallet looks a great idea but £50 with some effort you could make your own from that kids play mat foam

yeah i seen some jubo foam sheets in tesco for kids about 60 cm in sqaure would be perfect plus some silicon spikes would do the job all in for 7 quid or less.

however i prefer a basket as its more portable walking on the bank etc, and you can use it in a boat. The floating foam tray is best if you always wade.

Found also you can wade deeper and keep casting with a basket than the foam tray in my experiance that is.

Also think the above tray at £50 is the baby one there is a larger one at £60 me thinks

I used a small washing basket, rather than a basin. Solid bottom but mesh sides

something like this (but shallower) Addis - Baskets and Hampers - Square Laundry Basket

It lets waves wash through it, drains immediately and doesn't bob up and down.

Noeyedeer built himself one with an Ikea footstool that he's very proud of. Do a search, I think he posted an SBS.

I hope he's painted it, it looked a tad 'kindergarten' in its raw state with rainbow coloured strapping.

what make was the groundbait fold up bowl diameter wise how big would you say it is?

i like the idea of a fold up and have a few snowbee ones but kept finding that you need the stiff board inside to keep it open. For river fishing i think the snowbee is very good comfortable to wear all day and folds away if u dont need it ie walking some distance to the next pool. BUT For lake fishing fishing the wind blows the line out and without spikes to help separate the line it gets tangles.

I also own the wychwood black nylon net one which i think is a fantastic line tray for river fishing but also for TROPIC sea FLY fishing as it VERY TOUGH (i abused mine a bit used it as a tackle , bait carrer etc) coped very well. Stays open relatively ok without the need for a plastic tray insert, it packs very flat and hardly any room at all in luggage a quality bit of kit in my opinion. BUT no spikes for uk lake fishing suffers with distance casts as it cannt hold enough line.

How sad is this thread anglers trying to make a stripping bowl from ticky tacky. Whatever next lines from platted horse hair, landing nets made from onion bags,and Ikea bags to carry tackle. I know there's a recession on but don't you think you are going too far?

Lol - OK, so here's the challenge: Show me a stripping basket that:

- takes 15 minutes to build from scratch (drill/rout out holes, screw in U bolts & thread belt strap in my case)
- provides a feeling of satisfaction about your own handywork every time you use it
- costs £4 for the components
- is great for both SWFF and FWFF
- performs better

........ and I'll swop you for it




This is possibly a contender...........

but it will set you back £50 for the pleasure, and that will eventually get to you if you find you haven't used it so often after all.......
