Default Dont you just hate.

Dont you just hate other boat users anchoring in the middle of your drift. I was at a fishery yesterday and for most of the day i was drifting using a drogue and catching fish after about the 6th drift this boat with no engine just plonked his anchor down in the drift, what a plonker.

I hope you pointed out their mistake to them. I would have. This is clearly an inexperienced boat angler and will just keep on doing this untill someone points it out. Its not their fault and not to let them know begins a cycle of counter-productivity.
Conversley, if the angler knew what they were doing ( cutting into your productive drift deliberatley ) then they deserve a hard time for doing it.

I think it would be useful if drifting boats had a marker to display.Sometimes it is hard to ascertain (at distance) whether a boat is anchored or drifting. An orange marker would make other boats much more aware of drifters, and stay out of their path.If a drifting boat is a few hundred metres away it is hard to know what path it will take, and there should be a little give and take.Blatantly dropping your anchor in someone's drift is inexcusable though, and does deserve strong language!

I totaly agree with the marker system. infact if it was up to me then anchors would be banned.

Luckily it's not.

Surely, if you have any level of experience, you'd realise that from time to time drifting is appropriate and yet at other times anchoring is more so?

Depends where you fish, the weather conditions and size of the water.

Well said.I love to drift, and do so almost exclusively once the water warms up, but early season deep buzzer fishing, for instance, is best done from anchor, and I don't like being made to feel I'm a nuisance .Especially by a puller

Well, you wouldn't park in the middle of the M1 motorway, would you? But then, you could tell you were on a road, whar with tar, concrete and white lines!

This is not quite the same in open water, is it? How do you know where someone else is going to drift - it could be anywhere.

So, anchor where you like, as it's the responsibility of the drifter to find his way. Anyone who has any experience of handling a boat in a drift should be well capable of altering course without any trouble whatsoever.

provided he did not park his boat 50 yards in front of yours what makes it your drift, you said he did not have an engine well thats why he maybe anchored. i like drifting as mush as the next angler but if you have to move off line to go round a boat who cares.

missing the point slightly i think, the main problem with boats anchoring is when they watch you during a drift and see the productive areas and then proceed to cut in and drop anchor right on them instead of drifting through and sharing the fish, gets right on my t*ts but most waters are big enough to ignore them and encourage you to find a new area only for the same boat to do it again,
