Hi Scotty,

I've used the polyleaders for a few seasons now & Here's what I do with them.
I cut the loop on the thin end off & attach one of the Roman Moser tippet rings with a blood knot & a wee drop of super glue for insurance, I find this a lot neater than the original loop, and has never let me down.. As far as tippet goes I never use anything longer than the polyleader itself.
Hope this helps,

Rudolf

Hi, a lot would depend on rod length, S/Handed rods up to 10ft, I use 5ft Polyleaders, on my 15fter I use the10ft ones, Length of leader is really down to what your fishing for I fish for Sea Trout at night & use 5ft to 7ft leaders, & for Salmon 10ft to 12ft, hope this helps.
Tightlines Pete.

Hi Pete,

do you leave the original loop attached or do you make any sort of modification to the tippet end ??

All the best Scotty, I hope they work for you. They're a bit like Marmite - you either love them, or hate them. I find the faster sinking types are a handy way of getting a little deeper in the water, a lot qiucker than swapping fly lines I find.

In reality.a polyleader is an extnsion of your flyline. Not an extension of your leader. If you think of it that way it helps when chosing the length of your leader.I normally leave the forward loop on.but cut off the back loop and put a braided loop in place.
PS this is for salmon lines.

I don't understand why the poster says he uses poly's to get better turn over. That's not a reason for their use, IMO.

GFL is correct,In that few folk buy the floating polyleaders. Most folk who want to aid turnover buy tapered mono/flouro leaders.and buy Polyleaders to change what the tip of your flyline does without having to carry another line/spool with you.IE:- inter-med,sink-fast sink -v,fast sink.
